After leading the growth and development of McMaster’s research and international affairs portfolio for more than seven years, Mo Elbestawi has announced that he is stepping down from the position as of June 30, 2015.

“Under Mo’s leadership McMaster has seen incredible growth and development of its research capacity and international reach,” said president Patrick Deane. “His success has helped to strengthen McMaster’s reputation and his ability to broker relationships on behalf of the University will be very much missed.”

Elbestawi joined McMaster in 1986 and served as chair of the department of Mechanical Engineering, director and founder of the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute, and the Dean of Engineering before taking on the vice-presidential role in 2007.

“After almost 21 years in university administration I’m looking forward to my upcoming administrative leave,” said Elbestawi. “Creating new and strong partnerships for the University has been my chief goal as vice-president and I’m proud of the many advances McMaster has been able to make during my tenure. I would also like to recognize the incredibly dedicated staff members in the research and international affairs offices. They do outstanding work and it has been a pleasure to work with them.”

A selection committee to choose a new VP will be struck early in the new year.
