Van Koeverden wins silver, becomes Canada’s most decorated paddler

Canada's Adam van Koeverden pumps his fist after placing second in the 500m single kayak final at the the Beijing Olympics in Beijing, China. Van Koeverden won silver Wednesday at the London Olympics, in the process becoming Canada's most decorated paddler.


McMaster alumnus Adam van Koeverden has won a silver medal in the 1,000 metre kayak race at the London Olympics.

The Olympic medal is the Burlington, Ont.-born sprint kayaker’s fourth. He previously won gold and bronze in Athens in 2004 and silver in Beijing in 2008.

He has also won eight world championship medals, including two gold.

Van Koeverden graduated from McMaster in 2007 with a degree in kinesiology. He was the Faculty of Science’s valedictorian.

He also served as the Canadian flag-bearer in the 2004 and 2008 Games.
