The Marauders beat the Golden Hawks 43-0 Saturday to advance to the conference semifinal game Nov. 3. The win marked the end of the fourth undefeated season in the team's history.

The McMaster Marauders football team closed out its regular season Saturday with a 43-0 win over the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.

The win advanced the undefeated Marauders to the Ontario University Athletics conference semifinal game on Nov. 3, to be played at Ron Joyce Stadium. McMaster will play either Windsor, Western or Laurier.

Saturday’s win was the Marauders’ 18th in a row, dating back to 2011. The team is just one win shy of the national record, held by Laval.

Quarterback Kyle Quinlan, who finished the game with one throwing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns, said he’s pleased with the perfect season, but is already focusing on the 2012 playoff run.

“It’s something we can celebrate for a little bit, but this is a veteran group and we know better than to be too happy with that,” he said. “We are looking forward to the playoffs – to be 8-0 and lose out in the first round doesn’t mean anything. We have to go out and win them all now.”

This is the fourth time in McMaster football history the Marauders have finished the season undefeated. The other years were 1984, 2002 and 2003.

McMaster also celebrated Ron Joyce’s 82nd birthday at the game. The University friend and benefactor was presented with a football-themed cake from Hamilton’s Cake and Loaf bakery.
