Two McMaster graduate programs have been named to Eduniversal’s prestigious global rankings.

The Master of Communications Management (MCM) program landed at No. 16 in North America in the Top 200 Best Masters in Communications ranking, while the MSc. in eHealth came in at No. 41 on the Top 100 Best Masters in Health Management list.

Each year, Paris-based Eduniversal publishes its official rankings for the top Master’s and MBA programs in 30 fields of studies worldwide. More than 4,000 programs in 154 countries are considered during the selection process.

Individual programs are ranked based on three main criteria – global notoriety; the salary of first employment after graduation; and student satisfaction.

MCM is a unique cross-border partnership between the Department of Communication Studies & Multimedia and Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. It remains Canada’s only communications management graduate program.

The two-year program offers a full suite of communications management and business administration courses, including Applied Ethics in Communications Management; Strategic Public Relations Management; Public Relations Research; and Organizational Public Relations. Electives cover everything from social media and crisis communications to brand management and reputation building.

MCM differs from similar international programs by prioritizing the so-called “numbers side” of management training – preparing graduates to oversee all aspects of a given operation, including accounting, marketing and financial reporting.

The MSc. in eHealth is jointly managed by the DeGroote School of Business and the Faculties of Health Sciences and Engineering. On average, 40 students are admitted into the innovative, interdisciplinary program each year.

The program offers hands-on training in the area of “health informatics” – a growing field that explores how research and resources and can be applied to the acquisition, storage, retrieval and use of new information in healthcare. The program also champions industry-relevant research and development among students.

Graduates of the eHealth program have gone on to find meaningful employment with governments, private businesses and organizations involved in the health services industry and related research fields.
