Faculty members from business, humanities and health sciences have been selected by the Royal Society of Canada to enter its College of New Scholars, a national group that recognizes the country’s emerging academic leaders.

In all, 91 members were named to the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists, Canada’s first national system of multidisciplinary recognition for the next generation of intellectuals.

Named to the College are: Sarah Brophy, a professor of English and Cultural Studies in the Faculty of Humanities, Catherine Connelly, associate professor in Human Resources and Management in the DeGroote School of Business and Gregory Steinberg, a Professor of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

“It is of vital importance to the country and to McMaster that we invest in and support faculty members who are emerging as leaders in their fields,” says President Patrick Deane. “Being selected to join the College of New Scholars is a significant accomplishment and testament to the expertise, knowledge and abilities of these McMaster faculty members.”

These professors will join the College at a ceremony in Quebec City this November. Earlier this month, the Royal Society of Canada elected two other McMaster faculty members as Fellows. Eileen Schuller and Shiping Zhu will be honoured at the same Quebec City event later this fall.
