Take it in stride with the Campus Sculpture Guide

McMaster students Mera Qamar (left) and Annie Zhu took it upon themselves to design a pedestrian-friendly guide to exploring campus sculptures. The entire tour can be completed in less than an hour, beginning at the McMaster Museum of Art.

From the Bird Bath to the Bust of Bertrand Russell, there’s a wealth of sculpture to be explored all over campus.

Just in time for warmer weather, a pair of McMaster students have produced a new Campus Sculpture Guide to help you do just that.

The document was designed by Health Sciences student Annie Zhu, who pulled together all of the content with the help of Humanities student Mera Qamar.

Members of the campus community can pick up a free guide at the McMaster Museum of Art while supplies last, and begin a tour of more than 20 sculptures. With brochure in hand, the self-guided walking tour can be completed in under an hour.

The Campus Sculpture Guide includes a tour map, thumbnail photos, basic facts (artist, title, medium, donor) and “stories behind the sculptures.” These brief texts highlight the artist, subject, donor or significance of the work to McMaster.

Sculptures selected for this guide are primarily those that have fallen within the Museum’s purview.

An online version of the Campus Sculpture Guide will be launched in the near future.
