Students in Paris, Beirut and Baghdad will be getting a physical symbol of solidarity from their friends at McMaster University in the coming weeks.

Students, staff and faculty gathered Nov. 17 in the Life Sciences Building to make “peace bracelets” for those affected by recent terror attacks.

Supporters were asked to make two identical bracelets, one of which would be kept by the creator, while the other will be sent to schools overseas.

The idea, says organizer and Biology PhD candidate Taru Vasanthan, is to show young people that regardless of distance, someone in the McMaster community is thinking about them.

Many people also made monetary donations that will go toward relief efforts.

Vasanthan says she was inspired by her middle school teachers and peers, who ran a similar event for the victims of the September 11 attacks.
