Students honoured for academic perfection, excellence

Provost Award

Reaching for the stars. At a reception in CIBC Hall Wednesday, President's Award winners and Provost Honour Roll recipients were hailed by provost David Wilkinson (pictured) and University President Patrick Deane.

On Wednesday evening, President Patrick Deane and other University officials toasted this year’s President’s Award winners and Provost Honour Roll recipients.

The President’s Award recognizes students who were given an entrance scholarship in September 2012 for achieving admission averages of 95 per cent or higher in their final year of secondary school. The latter, the Provost Honour Roll, celebrates students with a perfect 12.0 sessional average over at least 30 units. A total of 74 students were named to the prestigious Honour Roll for their efforts during the 2011-2012 academic year, while 312 received the President’s Award.

“The provost and I are pleased to recognize students who demonstrate such an unwavering commitment to their studies,” says Deane. “Their efforts do not go unnoticed, and the entire McMaster community is immensely proud of their achievements.” David Wilkinson, provost and vice-president (academic), was also in attendance at last night’s ceremony, held in CIBC Hall.

Muzammil Memon, a second-year Health Sciences student, says receiving the Provost’s Medal was a hugely rewarding experience.

“I feel honoured to be a part of this celebration with the president, provost and my peers … It was rewarding being honoured at the reception, but what was most memorable was the theme of exploring educational innovation in all fields of study offered at McMaster, to improve everyone’s educational experience.”

Congratulations to all of the award winners at last night’s event.
