Hundreds of students earned certificates and diplomas from McMaster University’s Centre for Continuing Education at a ceremony held November 6.

Lisa Boniface, Acting Director of McMaster CCE, was the master of ceremonies for the evening. Addressing the students, she related how she, too, had completed her university studies on a part-time basis.

“When I started working on part-time studies it was for one reason – to further my career,” she said.  “For many of you, I am sure that career growth was, and is, a primary goal. I hope that your McMaster program will help you achieve your career goals but I also hope that you found, as I did, that there were many more benefits. Taking university-level courses as an adult can be a life-enriching experience.  It certainly was for me. Please accept my sincere congratulations. I hope that you have enjoyed your experience at McMaster and that you come back as you continue your journey of lifelong learning.”

Sean Van Koughnett, McMaster University Associate Vice-President (Students & Learning) and Dean of Students, congratulated students on their hard work.

“Your McMaster University education is an investment in yourself and in your ability to contribute to the communities and organizations that you’re involved with. All of our graduands should be commended for the investment that they have made,” he said.

McMaster CCE recognized 20 students for academic excellence in the fields of Accounting, Addiction Education, Business Administration, Case Management, Clinical Research, Health Informatics, Health Information Management, Human Resources Management, Management Studies, Marketing, Police Studies, Public Relations, Web Design & Development, Ogweho:weh Language and Metallurgy.

Students Dr. Salman Ahmed Khan and Derek Pollock took home the McMaster Association of Part-time Students (MAPS) Centennial Awards which recognize graduates who demonstrate outstanding community achievement or who overcome adverse circumstances while completing their studies.

Human Resources instructor Jim Turner and Marketing & Public Relations instructor Hilary Sadler received awards for exemplary teaching.

McMaster Alumni president Sondra Stephenson recognized the outstanding efforts of the graduates to balance multiple priorities in their lives.

“Your accomplishments are exceptional,” she said. “Balancing family, work and study is extremely demanding. Congratulations on your hard work and your success.”
