Students give radio update on ‘the best summer job ever’
A pair of students hiking the East Coast Trail with funding from McMaster’s Renaissance Award gave an update on their six-week trek to CBC Radio recently.
Andrew Case and Anthony D’Ambrosio, both students in the Arts & Science Program, stopped by a CBC studio in Newfoundland to talk about life on the trail.
In his introduction of the two students, host Cecil Haire called the trip “arguably the best summer job ever.”
The duo are camping along the trail and reading nature writers such as Emerson, Thoreau and Grey Owl on a journey of self-discovery.
In six weeks spent on the trail they hope to cover all 265 km of developed pathways and some portion of the 275 km of undeveloped trail that runs along the Atlantic coast of the Avalon Peninsula.
The trip was made possible with funding from the Drs. Jolie Ringash and Glen Bandiera Renaissance Award, which provides up to $25,000 annually for students to do something outside of their regular area of study.
