Civil engineering alumnus John Hollick will have his work featured alongside that of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and George Westinghouse at an upcoming New York exhibit.

Hollick’s SolarWall – which turns the sun’s energy into heat – will be part of the ‘Engineering the Everyday and the Extraordinary’ exhibit, curated by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

The Hamilton native’s technology was used on the roof of the CANMET Materials Technology Laboratory at McMaster Innovation Park.

Hollick says little attention has been paid to the use of solar technology for heating, despite the fact that more than half of a building’s energy needs is heating.
