Building greater collaboration between McMaster University and engineering, research, management and manufacturing giant Siemens Canada is the goal of a new agreement.

Officials from Siemens visited campus last week to put pen to paper with university leaders, signing a Memorandum of Understanding that lays out how the company and the university can assist one another.

McMaster and Siemens have agreed  to promote educational and employment opportunities for McMaster graduates while ensuring that Siemens and other high-tech leaders have access to a highly-skilled workforce.

A delegation from Siemens visited the John Hodgins Engineering building for the signing ceremony.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to formalize the relationship,” McMaster president Patrick Deane told those gathered to witness the signing.

“It’s very important for Siemens,” said Robert Hardt, president and CEO of Siemens Canada, who said such agreements are vital to “creating a culture of continuous learning.”

The memorandum describes how McMaster and Siemens intend to support one another through such activities as training programs, guest lectures, workshops and expanded opportunities for experiential education.

Siemens recognizes McMaster’s “extensive technical and professional expertise, know-how, and research and training facilities” and embraces opportunities to enhance the educational opportunities available to McMaster students.

Siemens is a major employer in Canada that provides highly skilled jobs in four major sectors: industry, energy, healthcare, and infrastructure and cities.
