Simply the best. The McMaster women's volleyball team earned their first provincial title since 2008 on Sunday, defeating the Ottawa Gee-Gees 3-0. The McMaster men knocked off the Western Mustangs on Saturday to claim an OUA crown of their own.

It was a golden weekend for McMaster varsity volleyball, as both the men’s and women’s teams clinched OUA titles.

Both teams will compete for a national championship this week.

The McMaster men had their way with the Western Mustangs on Saturday, powering the team to their fifth OUA title in the past seven years.

Set scores were 25-16, 21-25, 25-19 and 25-15 for the Marauders, who defeated the Mustangs on home court for the title for the second consecutive year. The win makes McMaster the top-seeded OUA representative at the upcoming CIS championship tournament in Calgary.

The women’s volleyball team swept the Ottawa Gee-Gees 3-0 to win the 2014 OUA championship — the first provincial title for the Marauders since 2008, and the second in team history.

McMaster’s Kayla Ng was named the player of the game, while Sophie Bukovec was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the OUA Final-Four, after putting together two strong weekend matches.

Since returning from the winter break in January, the Marauders have lost only one match versus OUA competition, which makes them one of the hottest teams in Canada heading into the CIS tournament in Regina.
