Pavlos Kanaroglou spent nearly a quarter century teaching and mentoring his students in what’s now the School of Geography & Earth Sciences, and building a dynamic and internationally renowned research portfolio in the area of transportation and the prediction of human behaviour.

Kanaroglou, a professor emeritus who held the Canada Research Chair in Spatial Analysis until his retirement in 2015 and passed away in May, will have his life’s work remembered with the creation of an endowed scholarship bearing his name.

The Kanaroglou Memorial Scholarship was announced by his daughter, Dr. Niki Kanaroglou, on behalf of the family, at a recent gathering to celebrate his life and his contributions to McMaster – its students and its research enterprise.

In keeping with her father’s commitment to both scholarship and citizenry, Niki said the family designed the award to reflect the character of her father, noting “he was not just a true scholar, but a dedicated citizen.”

Beginning next September, the award will be granted annually to one graduate student working in the McMaster Institute for Transportation & Logistics, with a proven interest in Kanaroglou’s field of study and whose research can potentially benefit the community at large.
