McMaster’s John Luxat, a highly regarded Professor of Engineering Physics, has been selected to lead an international academy that fosters the safe and economic use of nuclear energy around the world.
Luxat, an accomplished researcher and educator in nuclear risk assessment and safety, was elected chairman of the International Nuclear Energy Academy at its annual general meeting last month in Austria, part of the general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Luxat’s two-year term starts in January, when he assumes the chairmanship from Phillip Finck of the Idaho National Laboratory.
The INEA, founded in 1993, conducts studies and discussions and develops recommendations for the international nuclear community on nuclear energy matters.
The Academy includes more than 130 prominent senior nuclear energy experts from 25 countries around the world.
