Powwow welcomes First Nations students to McMaster
A native dancer, dressed in men's traditional regalia, wears eagle feathers, which represent the bird that carries messages to the creator. They are worn as a way to honour the eagle.
The McMaster First Nations Student Association held its fourth annual Welcoming Powwow on campus outside the John Hodgins Engineering building Friday, September 28.
The event provides McMaster students with an opportunity to learn more about indigenous culture and gives local First Nations students insight into post-secondary life.
The Powwow was open to all members of the community and featured dance performances, traditional cuisine and talks from members of the University’s Indigenous Studies Program.
