Pictorvision’s “Eclipse” aerial camera (manufactured at the PV Labs facility at McMaster Innovation Park) was utilized for the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. The camera was used to shoot the popular James Bond and Queen Elizabeth video sequence, featuring a dramatic helicopter ride along the River Thames and under London Bridge.

The stabilizing aerial camera won an Academy Award for best engineering achievement in motion picture in February, and was profiled in the Hamilton Spectator on Wednesday:

“The Eclipse, launched in the summer of 2008, allows cinematographers to capture aerial footage at faster flying speeds and more aggressive manoeuvering. It uses a GPS system and proprietary technology to offer unique steering, pointing and tracking capabilities.”
