Art students sketch the many faces of President Patrick Deane

Patrick Deane as Dumbledore

This drawing, by Emily Terejko, depicts President Patrick Deane as Professor Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of wizarding school Hogwarts in J.K. Rowlings' Harry Potter series of books.

McMaster President Patrick Deane was a recent visitor to the University’s Studio Art program, joining upper-year students during their regular Thursday critique class.

Deane’s tour of the studio was twofold: to browse student creations from the fall term, and also show his support for the Hamilton Artists Inc. Humanities Award. The selection process for the brand new award begins this month, and recipients will showcase their work as part of a month-long downtown exhibition in February.

The President is no stranger to student art. A group of second-year painters currently have their work proudly displayed in Gilmour Hall, just outside of Deane’s office.

To commemorate his dedication to the School of the Arts and celebrate the new Humanities Award, students presented Deane with a hand-bound book of original work, including several “interpretative” portraits of Deane.
