Research:
The New York Times published a piece about research into antibiotic resistance, featuring Gerry Wright (Institute for Infectious Disease Research) as its primary source. The Hamilton Spectator and Waterloo Region Record were among the outlets to pick up the piece via syndication.

CBC online posted a story about research a by Jeff Healey (Cardiology) showing that the common practice of triggering cardiac arrest to test defibrillators does more harm than good.

The Edmonton Journal reported on a major study of early childhood development in Alberta, which had evaluated children using the McMaster-made Early Development Instrument.

The Hamilton Spectator previewed the annual transportation conference hosted by the McMaster Institute for Transportation and Logistics in a story that quoted MITL director Pavlos Kanaraglou.

Teaching, learning and student success: 
The New York Times, The Toronto Star, National Post, Montreal Gazette, CTV News Channel, Sirius Satellite Radio, The Hamilton Spectator, Windsor Star, CJOB Radio in Winnipeg and CHCH TV all highlighted author Farley Mowat’s connections to McMaster, through the author’s archival donations to the McMaster’s library, covering some 350 boxes of manuscripts, correspondence and other material. Several of the stories featured interviews with archivist Rick Stapleton and Mowat biographer James King (English and Cultural Studies). King did a series of radio interviews via CBC Syndication, speaking to CBC Toronto’s Here & Now and to stations in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Windsor, Whitehorse, Thunder Bay, Sudbury and Kelowna.

The Hamilton Spectator, CHCH and CHML interviewed and reported on songwriter and musician Ian Thomas donating his archives to McMaster, which was recognized with a musical evening at Convocation Hall. The Spec and CHCH previewed and covered the event.

The Hamilton Spectator published an item on PhD candidate Fran Lasowski (Engineering) being named recipient of the 2014 Claudette MacKay-Lassonde Graduate Scholarship from Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation, which promotes engineering as a career choice for young Canadian women.

The Montreal Gazette published an editorial highlighting McMaster’s Multiple Mini Interviews as an important component in the process of selecting medical students.

The Toronto Star published a feature on the rise of midwifery, citing McMaster’s assistant dean of midwifery, Eileen Hutton.

Community  engagement:
The Globe and Mail published and The Huffington Post posted an op-ed by Michel Grignon (Economics, Health, Aging & Society) advocating for a more efficient health-care funding model.

The Globe and Mail published a column by Martin Gibala (Kinesiology) discussing the contributions of exercise intensity to overall fitness.

Expert opinion:
Global National News spoke to African history and culture expert Bonny Ibhawoh (History), twice, about the situation regarding more than 200 schoolgirls being taken from their school in Nigeria. Ibhawoh was in Tanzania at the time and spoke to the network via Skype.

CTV News Channel, CHML-AM, and The Hamilton Spectator spoke to Peter Graefe, and CHML talked to Henry Jacek (both of Political Science) about the provincial election. Radio-Canada (Ottawa) also talked to Graefe about Canada’s recognition of military members who served in Afghanistan.

The Toronto Star talked to graduate student Kate Einarson (Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour) about the ability of babies and toddlers to appreciate more subtlety than most adults realize, as part of a story about a new Toronto arts festival for babies, toddlers and small children.

In the news:
The Hamilton Spectator covered the City of Hamilton’s decision to offer a parcel of land near McMaster Innovation Park in addition to a cash contribution to help secure a new facility to be built in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology.

The Hamilton Spectator and Burlington Post reported on a decision by the City of Burlington and the university to delay discussions about a potential new McMaster facility in Burlington until after the provincial election.

The Hamilton Spectator published a letter to the editor by McMaster Students Union president Teddy Saull about the inclusive culture of McMaster.
