McMaster University has contracted Wayne Electric Company Ltd. to install an engineered lighting system on both sides of University Avenue and east along Sterling Street. This construction work is planned for the month of June.

The new fixtures will extend from the new Institute of Applied Health Sciences to Gilmour Hall. The fixtures and poles selected have been designed to complement the existing surroundings. The fixture is a clear Washington Globe with a non-glare optic reflector mounted atop a black, fluted Fibreglas pole, set into a traditional-style pedestal base.

Lighting levels will be greatly increased to comply with current standards. Existing concrete poles have deteriorated and are slated for removal. The east poles along University Avenue will feature brackets to accommodate hanging banners and floral arrangements.
