New funds to kick-start international research partnerships

A second round of funds is now available to McMaster researchers seeking to explore new international research partnerships.

The International Initiatives Micro Fund (IIMF) is intended to provide seed-funding for first-time international research contacts or initiatives, typically originated by individual faculty members.

The funds are aimed at reducing financial barriers to the formation of new partnerships and at kick-starting joint international research activities.

Ten proposals were funded in the first round of the IIMF which was concluded earlier this year.

“The first round of funding supported interactions with researchers in Brazil, China, France, the Netherlands, Peru, the UK, and the US that we anticipate will lead to the development of future international projects and initiatives,” says Peter Mascher, McMaster’s Associate Vice-President, International Affairs. “We want to build on this success and provide McMaster researchers with continued support as they explore new relationships and collaborations, expanding McMaster’s research capacity and laying the groundwork for long-term international academic and industry partnerships.”

Individual investments are limited to $5000. It is expected that ten projects will be selected to receive funding.

The application process is simple, requiring only a one-page description of the project and the intended use of the funds. Proposals should be accompanied by the applicant’s CV (NSERC Form 100, Canadian Common CV or equivalent). Faculty approval is required.

The application process is now open and proposals will be accepted at any time as long as funds are available. Preference will be given to first-time applicants.
