A new mobile app called MyHamilton promises to show McMaster students the best things about their city.

The crowd-based app will help students share information about their favourite places with each other via an interactive map.

The map focuses on downtown Hamilton from the escarpment to Bayfront Park and from Wentworth to Dundurn Street. Using geotag technology, users can pin locations they like on the map and share their “hidden gems” with friends. MyHamilton can also be used to apply for local jobs, access transportation information, search local accommodations and download entertainment and restaurant discounts.

Cheng Xiao Bo, a grade 12 student at Columbia International College, was presented with $200 in gift certificates for local businesses for his name and logo submission for the new Hamilton App at City Hall Sept 13.

Gisela Oliveira, employment service coordinator at McMaster’s Student Success Centre, says MyHamilton encourages students to educate other students about life in Hamilton. “

We’re experiencing a communication revolution,” she says. “This app will put Hamilton on the map.”
