MSU drives and putts for dough

The 2000 McMaster Students Union Charity Golf Classic attracted 104 enthusiastic duffers — the highest number of participants ever to turn out for the annual event.

MSU executive and alumni joined University staff and faculty in the afternoon “best ball” tournament, held July 6. They helped to raise more than $1,500 for the Pediatric Oncology Unit of the Hamilton Health Sciences Centre.

Jayson Duggan, MSU campus programmer, says everyone enjoyed the ambience of the 18-hole Chippewa Creek Golf and Country Club, and the beautiful, hot, sunny day. “It was a tremendous event and a great day.”

The $47 fee included a dinner at which time the prizes and trophies were presented, including the dreaded Chumpions Award.

According to Duggan, the prize table was spectacular. In additional to a great selection of golf accessories donated by “our generous sponsors,” Ricter Web Printing donated a 27-inch colour TV. This was raffled off, raising $1,000.

For those interested in vital statistics, the lowest score was 60, the highest was 103, and University President Peter George won the closest-to-the-pin prize.
