Mills Library opens its doors to Open Access

McMaster students and faculty are gathering from Oct. 20-24 to learn more about Open Access, a global trend in scholarly research.

Hosted by McMaster University LibrariesOpen Access Week features a series of events aimed at informing faculty and students about the ways McMaster and other institutions are working toward making online scholarly publications accessible to researchers without charges or other barriers to access.

In recent years, support for Open Access has grown among libraries, academic institutions and granting agencies around the world, leading to increased access to scholarly literature, as well as increased publishing options.

McMaster University Library has embraced this trend and hosts a number of faculty and undergraduate journals on its open access scholarly publishing platforms Escarpment Press and Student Journals @ McMaster University.

In addition, MacSphere, McMaster’s open access repository contains over 10,000 freely available theses and dissertations by McMaster graduate students.

Students and Faculty are invited to learn more about Open Access initiatives at McMaster and other institutions, as well to find out how they can contribute to the growing body of open access scholarly literature.
