McMaster celebrates volunteer service
It was National Volunteer Week from April 10-16 and the McMaster community gathered at the Museum of Art to celebrate.
The McMaster community gathered at the Museum of Art on April 13 to celebrate the University’s dedicated employee-volunteers.
More than 135 McMaster employees have volunteered over the past year for 28 successful programs and events. In his remarks, McMaster president Patrick Deane acknowledged the volunteers’ leadership and commitment, and thanked them for their creativity, teamwork and organizational skills.
The theme of the event was “Volunteers are the roots of strong communities.” As they left, each person was given a seedling to plant.
The museum’s exhibit, titled “Exit Strategy,” is comprised of works of art from the graduating BFA class in the McMaster School of Arts.
McMaster employees volunteer their time and energy to organize programs and events that impact more than 5,500 members of the community:
- Children’s Party
- ConnectME (formerly the McMaster Employee Spirit Society)
- Healthy Workplace committee
- Inspiring From Within (an annual professional development day available to all employees)
- Take Our Kids to Work Day
- TMG committee (The Management Group)
- United Way annual fundraising appeal (which raised $311,162 this year)
