MBA students pitch in for charity

First place students in this month's Pitch in for Charity contest won $5,000 for the Alzheimer Society Foundation.

MBA students in the DeGroote School of Business paired up with local charities this month to compete in the Pitch in for Charity challenge.

Teams of first-year students worked with organizations to answer the question: “What would your charity do with $5,000?”

The teams presented their 8-minute pitches to judging panels made up of students, faculty, staff, and alumni at the Ron Joyce Centre in Burlington on November 5.

In the end, three teams won cash awards for their charities. All the charities benefited from the ideas developed by the students, and the students got the chance to use what they learn in the classroom to give back to the community.

The challenge was part of the new DeGroote Days initiative in the MBA program. First year students get the opportunity to solve real business problems, integrate the knowledge they learn in the classroom, and develop professional skills. And in this case, they helped people in the community at the same time.
