‘Math is the perfect opportunity to fail’

Miroslav Lovric visited Hamilton’s St. Mary Catholic Secondary School this spring to talk about what it takes to learn math.

The talk was part of the school’s TEDx event, which mirrors the annual, international gathering of thinkers, technologists and inventors known as the TED conference.

Among the many lessons Lovric imparted upon the high school students? That math is the perfect opportunity to learn how to fail.

He also showed how math can prove the possibility of time travel, and told students that it’s much safer to hover above a black hole than below one.

Lovric’s talk, “What does it take to learn math? To live a life?”, is now online.
