Mac to Missy: We want you!

By Matt Terry

McMaster's athletics department wants Olympic swimming phenom Missy Franklin to test the University's waters.

Students, athletes and swim team head coach Andrew Cole have collaborated on a video message sent to the U.S. swimmer on Twitter. Franklin, whose parents are Canadian and whose mother is a McMaster alumna, replied that she "absolutely loved it" Thursday afternoon.

The video features area students, on campus for a summer kids camp, singing along to Carly Rae Jepsen's popular song Call Me Maybe - albeit with some altered, McMaster-ized lyrics.

Half way through the video, a group of students at the alpine climbing tower display a placard - on which is written McMaster's phone number - while singing "It's hard to look right at you baby, but here's Mac's number, so call me, Missy."

Franklin, a 17-year-old high school student who lives in Colorado, made her Olympic debut at the 2012 London Games, winning four gold medals in the 100 m backstroke, 200 m backstroke, 4x100 m  medley and the 4x200 m medley. She also won bronze in the 4x100 m freestyle.
