Marilyn Korzekwa has become the first Canadian to complete the Triple Crown of open water swimming.

The assistant professor of psychiatry is one of less than 100 people to have completed swims across the English Channel, the Straits of Catalina and around the island of Manhattan.

At the age of 57, Korzekwa is also the oldest Canadian to swim Southern California’s 33 km Catalina Channel.

In an interview posted July 23, Korzekwa told CBC Hamilton about avoiding a Norwegian cruise ship while swimming in New York.

The Manhattan swim, which is also a race, “was only a 10-hour swim.”

Korzekwa’s swims help raise money for the Good Shepherd.
