Christopher McLeod’s work is no longer on display at the McMaster Museum of Art, but he hopes that won’t stop it from spreading its message about the importance of water.

McLeod’s installation – known as the Aqua Lauta Project – made quite the splash at the Museum earlier this year.

A reclining bicycle attached to an oversized wheel and a series of pumps, tubes and filters, Aqua Lauta is a functional pieces of art that, when operated, purifies water.

The piece is the result of a two-year collaboration between McLeod and a team of engineering students.

“It’s about the importance of looking after water,” says McLeod. “It’s a bit hard to operate, but that’s sort of the point: water conservation is hard, but it’s incredibly important.”

McLeod is one of more than 500 students who will earn degrees June 10 from the Faculty of Humanities.

After Convocation, he’ll head to the Emily Carr University of Art and Design.

Longtime CBC personality Stuart McLean will be awarded an honorary degree at the 2:30 p.m. ceremony. Best known for his radio program “The Vinyl Café,” McLean now takes the show on the road to theatres across the country, broadcast every weekend on CBC Radio.
