Research Chair in Information Technology, will receive a unique honour in Spain on
Friday, when he accepts an honorary doctorate from the Universidad de Granada and
delivers the convocation address to graduating students there.

The university is giving Deen its highest honour in recognition of his collaboration with
researchers and students there.

Deen joined the faculty at McMaster in 1999, and today his long list of credentials
includes eight fellowships in academic societies, institutes and associations.

He is planning to share life lessons with the Granada graduands, drawing from his
childhood in the South American country of Guyana, his education abroad, his life in
Canada and his international experience in North America, Europe and Asia, bringing
the focus up to the present day and the intersection of engineering and sciences.

“While I am very humbled by this recognition, I am truly delighted to join the prestigious
ranks of the previous honourees,” Deen says.
