High school students spend day shadowing campus staff

More than 100 Grade 9 students are on campus Wednesday for the University’s annual Take Our Kids to Work Day.

The students will participate in teambuilding exercises at the ALTITUDE alpine climbing tower and spend time with Career Services staff before meeting with parents, guardians and volunteers for shadowing.

This year, Human Resources Services partnered with the Office of the President and Pathways to Education to bring students to campus who would not otherwise have the opportunity to work with a mentor.

Pathways to Education addresses systemic barriers to education by providing community-based programs designed to help students transition into post-secondary education from high school.

Pathways has helped reduce the high school drop-out rate and increase the number of students who go on to post-secondary education.

Take Our Kids to Work Day works to illustrate the importance of education, skills development and training while giving students the opportunity to  experience the world of work.
