Help shape the future of community engagement at McMaster

The McMaster community is invited to participate in a strategic planning process now underway that aims to shape the future of community engagement at McMaster.

The Network for Community Campus Partnerships has launched a 6 month, campus-wide information gathering process to inform the development of a strategic plan that will set clear directions to guide McMaster’s community engagement strategy for the next five years.

There will be a number of opportunities for members of the McMaster and Hamilton communities to contribute to the process including strategic retreats and campus-community dialogues that will focus on issues related to community-engaged research and education and on identifying action strategies to move forward.

The Network will also seek input through a set of short online surveys encouraging faculty, staff, students and community partners to submit ideas about how the Network can support their community engagement activities.

“The goal that we continue to strive towards is to develop mutually beneficial partnerships both with communities and across campus that lead to research, education and service outcomes that have a positive impact on the greater good of society,” says Sheila Sammon, McMaster’s director of community engagement. “We look forward to hearing from a broad range of campus and community partners to ensure that we’re working towards a common vision that supports a long-term approach to building positive and reciprocal community campus partnerships.”

Formed in 2013, the Network was created to support the University’s community engagement goals by bringing together representatives from across campus to develop ways to enable community engaged education and research, establish resources and infrastructure to support community engagement, and forge sustainable and mutually beneficial links between the University and broader communities.

The strategic planning process is intended to build on the work and initiatives undertaken by the Network over the past two years and create a framework to align McMaster’s community engagement goals with the broader mission and vision of the University.
