Hamilton’s Leadership Summit for Women brings in local innovators

Creative, visionary, bold, risk-taker; these are just some of the words that are often associated with entrepreneurs. From The Forge to Innovation Factory, Co-Motion Group and countless others, Hamilton, too, has developed a similar reputation as a home for many successful start-ups and small-businesses that continue to grow, work together, and thrive.

Which is why Entrepreneurship Week is not only a celebration of entrepreneurs, but also a celebration of Hamilton and its innovators who continue to pave a path for creative problem-solving and visioning for a Brighter World.

On Saturday, November 18, 2017, Hamilton innovators and community leaders will unite at the Leadership Summit for Women, a celebration of women’s leadership that brings together women, trans* individuals, and allies from the Hamilton community.

While the conference’s focus is not specifically entrepreneurship, one of its goals is to inspire attendees to transform their lives and the lives of others in the community.   Many of this year’s featured speakers and workshop facilitators are intrapreneurs, people who use their creativity and visioning to solve problems, innovate, and lead change within organizations and the community. Drawing upon their strengths as innovators, this year’s conference theme is “Be Bold,” a theme that aims to open discussions around being bold for change, leadership, ideas, and inclusivity.

The Leadership Summit for Women is more than just a conference; it inspires young women and allies to take action through its digital engagement and interactive panels and workshops. Last year’s conference brought in over 100 attendees and even trended on Twitter.

New to the Leadership Summit for Women this year is a Hamilton innovators panel, featuring women leaders who have a strong connection to Hamilton and have impacted city growth. This year’s speakers are: Tammy Hwang, co-founder of Co-Motion Group and long-time city-builder; Nicole LeClair, welding professor and engineering technologist at Mohawk College; Hira Nadeem, co-president of the McMaster Space Initiative, space advocate, and Hamilton Youth Poet; and, Erin O’Neil, founder of Broad Conversations and co-lead of Ladies Learning Code. Each of these extraordinary women have contributed to helping Hamilton make a brighter future.

The panel will be moderated by McMaster University and Mohawk College professor, Maja Jovanovic. Professor Maja was a Leadership Summit for Women speaker last year and will facilitate the panel’s focus on being bold in your career and life.

The Leadership Summit for Women is free and open to all members of the community. The conference is almost sold out. Register to attend.
