Come on then, lads: Local students from Ancaster High School (yellow) and Hamilton District Christian High School (white) braved the chilly morning temperature for a game of soccer at Ron Joyce Stadium. Teams from the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board will be competing on campus Tuesday and Wednesday.

When the snow starts falling, it’s time to lace ’em up and play a friendly game of … soccer?

Students from the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board took to the field at Ron Joyce Stadium Tuesday morning to officially kick-off their soccer season.

“It’s been a long winter, and many of the city’s soccer fields are still closed,” said Mark Alfano, associate director, Athletics & Recreation. “It’s a priority of ours to open up these facilities for local students and the community, and it was a priority of Ron Joyce’s as well when the stadium was built.”

Teams from across Hamilton will compete at McMaster throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, with six games on the schedule each day.
