July 8: Campus open, classes resume, full power restored
Friday July 8 6:00 am: Full power has been restored and campus will resume normal operations today. Classes and activities will proceed as scheduled. Through the night, Facilities Services has worked to restore power and air conditioning to campus. Food services will operate on a reduced schedule – La Piazza in the Student Centre and Williams Cafe in the McMaster Children’s Hospital are open, all other food outlets are closed. Avenue 2 Learn is also operational and all assignments due today and tests scheduled for today will go forward.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during yesterday’s fire and power outage.
Thurs. July 7
5:20 p.m.: Power has been restored to campus, evening classes have been cancelled but campus remains open. Buildings have air circulation but not air conditioning. McMaster expects to open tomorrow and to return to normal operations. There is the possibility of limited air conditioning and limited food services options Friday.
4:30 p.m.: Due to complications from today’s power outage that are affecting air conditioning on campus, McMaster is cancelling all evening classes at the 1280 Main Street West campus tonight, July 7.
Avenue 2 Learn was impacted by the power outage and any assignments due today are now due tomorrow at the same time as the system comes back up.
All food service outlets on campus are closed as of 6:00 p.m.
Campus remains open.
3:52 p.m.: The pick-up area for the shuttle bus to west campus parking has been relocated to the campus GO station.
2:56 p.m.: Avenue to Learn is currently down. Work due today will be due at the same time tomorrow.
2:30 p.m.: Due to power issues on campus, University chillers are not functioning. This has shut down air conditioning across campus.
2:23 p.m.: Those in buildings without power can leave for the day. Supervisors are asked to ensure the orderly departure of staff and visitors from affected buildings.

1:24 p.m.: Buildings on the west side of campus are experiencing a power outage due to fire at ET Clarke Centre. The University is working to restore power, but the work may take some time.

- McMaster Children’s Centre (building closed)
1:12 p.m.: Fire at ET Clarke Centre has been put out and was contained to the basement and first floor of the building. No injuries are reported. Power has been cut to the building but remains on to the rest of campus.
Those on campus are asked to stay away from the area at this time.
1:04 p.m.: Hamilton Fire Department has advised that the fire at ET Clarke Centre may result in a power outage on campus.
12:54 p.m.: There has been a fire at the ET Clarke Centre on campus. The building has been evacuated and Hamilton Fire Department is on scene. Updates to follow.
