Film brings romantic Paris to McMaster

Spring is finally here, and with its arrival comes the second presentation of the Humanities Periscope Series. On May 6, there will be a showing of the enigmatic film La Double vie de Veronique (1991).

Directed by Krzysztof Kieslowskie, famed director of the Red, White, and Blue series, and set in romantic Paris, La Double Vie de Veronique is a beautifully photographed, dream-like exploration of psychic bonds and parallel lives.

Actress Irhne Jacob is mesmerizing in her dual role, playing two women who, though born at the same time a thousand miles apart, are inextricably bonded.

Following the screening, there will be light refreshments with a French twist at a cafi-style reception to be held in the foyer of the Robinson Memorial Theatre.

Next, a distinguished panel will lead an enlightening discussion about the film. Graham Petrie, professor emeritus of English, will preface the film and lead the panel discussion. Imre Szeman, assistant professor of English, and Joseph Sokalski, assistant professor of drama, will join Petrie.
