Exercise goes straight to your head

While our cognitive abilities will decline as we age, we do have some measure of control over that decline – using good old-fashioned exercise.

That’s according to kinesiologist Jennifer Heisz, who’s work was highlighted in a Q & A with the Cognitive Neuroscience Society recently.

Heisz and her team have found that older adults who are physically active have a unique pattern of brain signal complexity. That pattern shows greater local processing of information than both younger adults and their less active peers.

Heisz says it’s associated with better performance on specific tasks.
