Engineering and Science Olympics will attract the sharpest young minds in Ontario

Seeing red: High school students and undergraduate leaders gathered in front of the John Hodgins Engineering Building for the 2013 opening ceremonies. Events will be running all day on Thursday, Oct. 16 as part of the 25th Annual McMaster Engineering and Science Olympics.


Students from 62 high schools from across the province will test their science, technology, engineering and math skills at the 25th Annual McMaster Engineering and Science Olympics on Thursday.

More than 1,400 high school students and teachers from across the province — from as far as Windsor, Goderich, Alliston, Midland and Manitoulin Island — are vying for more than $20,000 in McMaster student awards.

They will compete in events such as chemical forensics, mini-car jump, biotechology to the rescue, egg high jump, physics paper triathalon and mechanical transporter. New for 2014 will be the Global Water Challenge, Monsoon Crisis and LEAP’s Angry Nerds.

Students will also take part in design challenges, interactive demonstrations, lectures, tours and planetarium shows. Guests will spend the day rubbing elbows with engineering and science faculty and undergraduates as they take on their worthy competitors.

When: Thursday, Oct. 16, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Awards announced at 3:45 p.m.
