The fifth annual Hamilton Economic Summit will take place Thursday at the Hamilton
Convention Centre.

The summit is meant to help advance the city's economy and find ways to capitalize on
its many strengths. The theme for this year's gathering is “Hamilton's role in the
regional economy and beyond.”

John Kelton, dean and vice-president of health sciences, Bob McNutt, acting dean of the
DeGroote School of Business and Nick Markettos, assistant vice-president of research
partnerships, will speak as part of three different panel discussions at the summit.

“Those working in education and in business must continue working together for the benefit of our community,” said University President Patrick Deane. “Projects such as the McMaster
Automotive Research Centre at the Innovation Park and the Downtown Health Campus
are catalysts for growth and strengthen the greater Hamilton community, of which the
University is a part.”

McNutt will sit on the panel focusing on education, while Kelton will join the health
sciences panel and Markettos will discuss advanced manufacturing.

Economist and demographer David Foot will give the session's keynote address, which
will focus on trends affecting Hamilton's economy.
