Building comprehensive student learning portfolios; discovering ways for students to enhance their education by serving Hamiltonians in city neighbourhoods and expanding McMaster’s well-developed experiential education programs are among the more than two-dozen projects funded in the first phase of Forward with Integrity investments.

The 29 projects are either receiving funds or endorsements in a process initiated by President Patrick Deane and provost David Wilkinson. In total, the initiatives are receiving $122,245  and were selected from 54 proposals submitted this fall.  This round of funding was focused on enhancements to the student experience and was supported by the President’s Fund, through generous donations from alumni, as well as the Provost’s Academic Priorities Fund.

“There was an extraordinary response to the call for proposals,” says President Deane. “The review committee received many outstanding suggestions and project plans. Selecting the recipients for the first wave of investment was a challenging task. These projects advance the University’s priorities and are central as we continue the progress we’ve seen over the past year.”

Among those receiving funds or endorsements are:

–        Several projects connecting students with community-service opportunities including initiatives in Engineering, the School of Nursing, Humanities, School of Business, Science and others

–        A variety of proposals centred on student’s learning portfolios, with efforts underway in Engineering, Science, the Centre for Leadership in Learning, Social Sciences, Humanities and Health Sciences

–        Projects to further integrate research activities with undergraduate and graduate student success in Graduate Studies, Science and Health Sciences

There will be another opportunity for faculty, staff and students to apply for FWI investment. A call for proposals for projects related to fostering interdisciplinary research and dialogue will be issued in the new year with proposals likely due in late February.
