Downtown Health Campus rising in city’s core
The McMaster Health Campus in Hamilton's downtown. The facility will see more than 54,000 patient visits each year.
The outline of the McMaster Health Campus is quickly taking shape at the corner of Hamilton’s Bay and Main Streets.
Ground was broken December 3 on the site, which will see more than 54,000 patient visits each year.
Since then, foundation has been poured, an underground patient parking area has been built and mechanical and electrical work has begun.
The $84M project remains on time and on budget.
“The Health Campus is going very well,” said Liviu Carmazan, project manager with Ball Construction. “We’re already finishing the third floor slab. Every project is unique, but this will be a real feather in our cap.”
The facility will include teaching spaces, exam rooms and clinical space and will provide health care for 15,000 Hamiltonians.
The practices will have teams of family doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.
The LEED certified Health Campus will be home to the City of Hamilton’s Public Health Services, McMaster Maternity Centre, the research and offices of Family Medicine, Continuing Health Sciences Education and the Program for Educational Research and Development.
Substantial completion is scheduled for November 2014, with move-in slated to begin in December.
