January is an important time for MBA case competitions. With both the MBA Games and the John Molson MBA International Case Competition taking place, MBA students are already busy putting their skills to the test early in 2016.

MBA Games:

Each year, the MBA Games marks the largest gathering of MBA students in Canada. Students from business schools across the country compete in three categories: Academics, Athletics and Spirit.

This year, the team from the DeGroote School of Business finished first in both Athletics and Academics. This is DeGroote’s fifth time winning the MBA Games, with the school’s last victory coming in 2014. As a result of this year’s triumph in Toronto, the MBA Games could potentially return to DeGroote next year.

More than 20 business schools participated in the competition, including: Schulich, Rotman, Ivey, Ryerson and Dalhousie. Ryerson placed second and Schulich third.

John Molson MBA International Case Competition:

Taking place from Jan. 3-8, the John Molson MBA International Case Competition (MBA ICC) is the largest and oldest case competition of its kind in the world. Based in Montreal, MBA ICC attracts the top MBA students from around the world to compete for a grand prize of $10,000 in five case analyses.

The team from DeGroote had a strong win in their first round, placing them at the top of their division and tied with Olayan School of Business, American University of Beirut.
