The 2013-14 varsity season came to a close on Tuesday evening at the 90th annual McMaster Athletic Awards.

A pair of fifth-year students, Cameron Bailey and Hailey Milligan, were given top honours as the male and female athletes of the year.

Bailey, a native of Dundas, Ont. and member of the swim team, was presented with the Ivor Wynne Trophy as the University’s top male athlete. At this year’s OUA championship, Bailey won gold in the 200-metre individual medley for the fourth straight year, and also claimed a bronze medal in the same race at nationals while setting a new team record and becoming the first Marauder to finish the race in less than two minutes.

For the fourth time in his varsity career, Bailey was also awarded the OUA Jeno Tihanyi Award as the outstanding medley swimmer in Ontario. He’ll graduate from McMaster as a five-time OUA First Team All-Star and five-time team MVP.

Milligan, who hails from Brantford, Ont., took home the Therese Quigley Award as McMaster’s top female athlete. Her final year at the University cemented Milligan’s place among the best players in Marauder basketball history. In her third season as co-captain, Milligan posted team-leading averages of 18.4 points and 11.6 rebounds per game, and ranked third and first, respectively, in those categories across the OUA.

She also became only the fourth student-athlete at McMaster to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for her career, finishing with a total of 1,141 points. Milligan’s standout season led her to be named an OUA First Team All-Star for the second consecutive year.
