Charlotte Yates named U Guelph Provost

Charlotte Yates, McMaster’s dean of Social Sciences will be the next provost at the University of Guelph. Guelph announced the appointment today following approval by its board of governors.

“For nearly 30 years, Charlotte Yates has been at the forefront of the liberal arts on campus and in our community,” says President Patrick Deane. “As a faculty member, researcher, director of labour studies and dean she has led with distinction, while building and sustaining strong connections between McMaster and the community.”

Charlotte Yates first arrived on campus in 1987, joining the Labour Studies program and Department of Political Science. Prior to being appointed dean in 2008, she was director of Labour Studies.

She is a professor in Labour Studies and is one of the country’s leading experts in automotive policy, union renewal and organization and globalization. She leads the Automotive Policy Research Centre, funded through an Automotive Partnership Grant, and serves on many community organizations and boards including the YWCA – Hamilton. She is the author of several books and dozens of research papers.
